Breakfast; the most important meal of the day, or so we've been told! Here at oomf we are certainly breakfast fans, but why is starting your day with a highly nutritional and hearty breakfast so important?

Have you ever thought about the term breakfast and what it could mean? Broken down breakfast means to 'break the fast'. When we sleep we enter into a fasting period where we don't consume any calories which slows down our metabolic rate. By eating breakfast with in an hour of waking we kick start our metabolism and help keep it revved up high for the duration of the day.
Studies show that those who start the day with a healthy breakfast are more likely to be of a healthy weight. This is because in theory by eating breakfast we will consume far fewer calories through out the rest of the day due to keeping our bodies supplied with the energy it needs and keeping that 'starving' feeling at bay.

Breakfast restores glucose levels, an essential carbohydrate which is needed for the brain to function. Studies show that eating breakfast can improve memory as well as concentration. It can also improve our mood and lower stress levels!
